This holiday is an alternative to our Drei Annen Hohne & The Brocken
holiday, designed for those who prefer to stay in a town rather than out
in the country. The suggested walks are the same as for the Drei Annen
Hohne & The Brocken holiday. |

The Hotel Your base for this holiday is the attractive, half-timbered 4* Hotel Weisser Hirsch, run by the Wieland family. Set on the main market place in the very heart of one the most attractive towns in the Harz. From the hotel there are fine views of the castle, the town hall and the Brocken. Wernigerode is the home base for the narrow gauge steam railway, which you can use to reach most other parts of the Harz. The hotel has a sauna and there are two lifts. |

Some suggested walks for this holiday Walk 1. Through the forest to the Zillerbach lake. Then across the plateau to the viewpoint at Armeleute Berg. Then down into Wernigerode (about 7 miles). Walk 2. Climb Hohne Klippen, over 3000 feet high, then down to the rock outcrop at Ottofels and continue down to the gorge at Steinerne Renne (about 8 miles). Walk 3. Walk through fabulous forests to Mandelholz Lake, then continue to the villages of Tanne and Sorge (about 10 miles). Walk 4. Take the train to the summit of the Brocken and enjoy the view from the 3748 feet high summit. The walk down Goethe's path through the National Park (about 8 miles). |
