Walking Holiday in Oberhof 2007

Oberhof, high on the Rennsteig ridge is a leading resort in both summer and winter. Lying above the 2700 foot contour, this is an ideal place to enjoy the fresh air of the hills and forests of Thuringia. Oberhof is also home to the finest alpine garden in Europe, while there are magnificent high level walks. There is a fine swimming pool in town too.

The Hotel Thüringenschanze
The Hotel Thüringenschanze is only a quarter of a mile from the centre, but its location at the end of a side street gives you peace and quiet for your stay. The comfortable rooms are light and airy; the cooking includes regional specialities from Swabia as well as from Thuringia. The cafe is also well known for its cakes.

Some suggested walks for this holiday
Walk 1. Walk through the Silver Valley to the shores of the Ohra lake. Return via the peaceful Kerngrund (about 13 miles).

Walk 2. Follow the Rennsteig south east. When you feel like returning, there is a bus service back to Oberhof from eleven well-spaced points along the 16 miles to Neustadt am Rennsteig.

Walk 3. For a gentle day, walk up to the Rennsteig Garden, less than 2 miles from the centre of Oberhof, then stroll around the 17 acres of alpine plants.
