The Hotel Schiff The Hotel Schiff is in the pedestrianised centre of town, just a couple of hundred yards from the lake. Dating back to 1562, it is one of the oldest buildings in town. The hotel has a new, enthusiastic, management team and has recently been thoroughly refurbished. Bedrooms have a view of either the lake or the town square. The hotel has a swimming pool, sauna and sun terrace overlooking the lake. Lift to all floors. The public areas and bars are decorated in typical Black Forest style and the restaurant is one of the most popular in town. The half board option includes a four course dinner. |

Some suggested walks for this holiday Walk 1. Enjoy a relaxing walk round all or part of the lake (about 11 miles). There are boats on the lake allowing a shorter walk if you want. Walk 2. Take the train along the lake shore to Aha. Climb to the Bildstein, from where there is a fine view of the Feldberg, the lake and the Windgfällweiher, a typical Black Forest tarn. Continue on past an inn to St.Cyriak's Chapel, then Descend through forest to the Windgfällweiher and back to the lake (about 9 miles). Walk 3. Take the train to Feldberg Station and walk to the foot of the Feldberg. then follow some of the nature trails on the highest mountain in the Black Forest (about 9 miles). Walk 4. Take the bus to Lenzkirch. This walk starts with a steady climb through forest to a chapel, then you walk largely across open country back to the lake (about 7 miles). There are a great many other walks you can choose from. The local tourist office also organises some walks (sometimes half a day, sometimes a full day) with a leader. If you have some German, you may find one or other of these to be of great interest. |
