This is a six night holiday in the only hotel situated right on
the bank of the Middle Rhine,
just north of St. Goar. The pretty small town is dominated by Rheinfels Castle,
which is well worth a visit. The hotel is also just a few miles north of where
Julia Bradbury finished her walk along the Rhine in the BBC TV
German Wanderlust. While here you can walk through the vineyards above the river, along the Rhine Heights Way or the Rhine Castles Trail, while for cyclists there is the Rhine Cycle Way along the river. This is a relaxing single centre holiday. While the basic package is 6 nights, you can have a shorter or longer holiday if you wish.

Hotel Landsknecht The Hotel Landsknecht is a family run 3* hotel, officially accredited as a walker's hotel, and set on the bank of the river a mile to the north of St. Goar. It is the only hotel on this part of the river to have a terrace directly on the river. |

From the hotel there are fine views of Maus Castle and the vineyards
on the opposite bank. The Lorenz family not only run a fine, friendly
hotel, but also make fine wines in Boppard, which you can enjoy in the
restaurant, or taste and buy in the Vinothek. The hotel also has two self-catering apartments, if you prefer this type of accommodation. |

Some suggested walks for this holiday Walk 1. Follow Day 5 of the Rhine Castles Way Holiday past the Loreleyblick (viewpoint across the river to the Loreley, where Julia Bradbury finished her River Rhine walk) to end at Oberwesel (about 7 miles). Return by ship or train. Walk 2. Take the ship to Bad Salzig and follow the Rhine Castles Way back to St. Goar (about 8 miles). Walk 3. Climb from the hotel up the slope above the river to a couple of superb viewpoints, then return via forest (about 4 miles). Walk 4. Take the ferry to St. Goarshausen and follow the path up to Katz Castle, then follow the Rhine Heights Way to Maus Castle. Return to St. Goarshausen via the village of Nochern (about 7 miles). |
