Oberammergau

Owing to the Passion Play, this holiday is not available in 2010

Pilatus House Oberammergau is the heart of the Ammergau Alps, the most popular area in Germany for alpine and pre-alpine walking. Known worldwide for its famous passion play, this is still a traditional small Bavarian town with much local character. Woodcarving has been a folk art in the area for centuries and the highly characteristic wall paintings or Lüftlmalerei that adorn many buildings are also part of a nearly 300 years old tradition. Within easy reach of Oberammergau are both the magnificent abbey of Ettal and Linderhof, the only Royal Castle that King Ludwig II actually used.

A holiday here allows you to combine safe walking in the alps, using the cable car and chair lifts, with highly attractive low level walking through areas known for their rare plants and wildlife.

The Hotel Turmwirt
The Hotel Turmwirt, run by the Glas family, is a comfortable family run 3* hotel in the heart of town, with a typical Bavarian restaurant, serving also a number of good vegetarian dishes.
