The Neckar Valley, the Odenwald & Heidelberg |

The River Neckar is one of the most romantic in Europe. Rising just north of
the Danube, it cuts between the Black Forest to the west and the Swabian Alb
to the east. Two of the major cities of Germany, Stuttgart and Heidelberg lie on the river and the middle reach of the river is a significant winegrowing area. Further down the valley the river cuts through the hills of the Odenwald. The dramatic crags are frequently crowned by castles, many now ruined, but some still inhabited. |

With landscapes varying among vineyards, forest, riverscape and meadows,
this deserves to be much better known than it is. The advantage of its
relative lack of recogition is the peace and quiet you will experience
walking here.
