The Hunsrück is noted for its Roman remains, and Ausonius
was a Roman poet who lived at Trier on the Mosel; his best known work is a song
in praise of the river. The wine-growing village of Neumagen-Dhron was the summer residence of Emperor
Constantine. This is a walk through the heart of the western Hunsrück; your holiday will take
you along old Roman roads and past remains of Roman settlements, temples and villas. Elsewhere there
are romantic glens leading up from the Mosel, virgin woodland, old watermills, ruined castles and
fine views. Daily ascent and descent ranges from 750ft to 1900ft. |
