The Elbe Valley - Krippen & Bad Schandau 2008 |

Hotel Erbgericht and Hotel Grundmühle - Krippen These 3* hotels in the small riverside village of Krippen have been thoroughly refurbished and offer very comfortable rooms. The Grundmühle has sauna, solarium and a small gym, while the Erbgericht has a sauna and an original vaulted beer cellar. The two are only a couple of hundred yards apart, so you can visit one from the other. The rooms at the Erbgericht are more individually furnished, while most of those at the Grundmühle are very similar. The local rail link runs along this bank of the river. Prices below are for accommodation at either of these hotels. Apparthotel am Schlossberg - Bad Schandau For those wanting a location in a town, we offer this hotel next door to the National Park Visitor Centre, in the town across the river. If you prefer a town centre location, or if you are in a family group of up to seven people, this may well be the best option for you. Accommodation is in appartments with 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms, a living room with a small cooking area and a good sized shower room. The 4 bedroom appartments have both bathroom and shower room. Accommodation can be either on Bed & Breakfast or Half board basis. Transfers between the rail station and the hotel are not included. There is a wide range of places to eat in the town. Please ask for prices if you want to stay at this hotel. |

Some suggested walks for this holiday These are described assuming that you are staying on the Krippen side of the river. On other days, make a day trip to Dresden, have a day on the river or make a trip to the Czech Republic. Walk 1. Walk up through forest and over fields to the foot of the Zschirnstein, one the many sandstone outcrops. Enjoy the view from the top, descend to the other side (about 10 miles). Walk 2. Walk up through villages to the top of the Papststein. Down to the forest again to the Göhrisch, a second rock outcrop. Back down to the river at Königstein. Return by steamer or train (about 6 miles.) Walk 3. Follow the river upstream, walking up the side of the valley to Schöna. Visit the Königskrone and Zirkelstein outcrops. Return via a swimming pool, deep in the forest (about 7 miles). Walk 4. Cross the river by ferry, then take the lift(!) up the cliff face. Walk through the dramatic Schramstein rocks along a host of waymarked routes. Descend to the valley of the Kirnitzsch, return by tram. Walk 5. Take the local train south to the Czech border, then the ferry across the river to the Czech Republic. From here walk to the Prav&269;ická Brána, a huge, dramatic natural sandstone arch. The route back to the river includes a short trip by boat through a dramatic gorge (about 10 miles). |
