Walking Around Eisenach 2012A perfect Combination of German Culture and Fine Walking

Eisenach grew up around the castle of the Wartburg, the
castle that the Germans themselves most treasure.
The historical associations of this amazing castle, particularly
Luther's translation of the bible and the story of Tannhäser,
are very rich. Eisenach is also the birthplace of JS Bach,
and a mecca for music lovers. On account of the number of ancient monuments, including both the bach House and the Luther House, as well as the Wartburg, a holiday in Eisenach is unique in the way it combines historical sites with wonderful walking. The town itself is quite small, but there are always plenty of things to do here. |

The Berghotel The Berghotel, carefully restored in 1998, is high above the southeastern edge of town: although less than a mile from the centre of town, footpaths pass the door. Relax on the terrace and enjoy the views of the Thuringian Forest. The hotel is rated 4* superior and has a sauna and a lift. Some suggested walks for this holiday Walk 1. Walk up to the Rennsteig at Hohe Sonne, follow the path back to Wilde Sau, then return via the Wartburg (about 10 miles). |

Walk 2. Take the train to Hörschel and follow the first part of the
Rennsteig. There are a number of points along the way from where paths
head back towards Eisenach. Walk 3. Walk up to the viewpoint by the Mosbacher Lime, continue to the Duke's Oak and return via the Singer's Meadow (about 6 miles). |
