Diessen on the Ammersee 2008This tour is not described in our brochure |
||
![]() |
With its situation on the shores of one of Bavaria's largest lakes which is surrounded both by low lying wetlands (which are an important nature reserve) and attractive hills, Diessen is as well suited to the cyclist as to the walker. Cycles may be hired locally. | |
|
The Hotel Seefelder Hof The Hotel Seefelder Hof is quietly situated at the end of a cul-de-sac, very close to the lake, the station and the steamer landing stage. The Filgertshofer family have run the hotel for many years. Being close to the lake, freshly caught fish is an important item on the menu. Do not pass by the chance to taste the unique Renke, a fish from the salmon family that is only found in the pre-alpine lakes. |

Some suggested walks for this holiday The King Ludwig Way passes through Diessen, and we recommend that at least some of your walking should be along this route. But there is a huge range of other walks, with panoramic views of the alps, for all to enjoy. Walk 1. Take the lake steamer across the lake to Herrsching, then walk up to Andechs. Walk down again to Pähl, where you can pick up an alternative route of the King Ludwig Way. Continue to Raisting and return to the hotel by train. Walk 2. Follow the King Ludwig Way south to Wessobrunn and Hohenpeissenberg. (If the weather is clear, the view from the top of the Hohen Peissenberg is magnificent.) Return to the hotel by train. Walk 3. Follow the lake shore to the northern end of the lake, then take the steamer back to Diessen. There are swimming places marked on the map along the way, allowing you to spend a very relaxing day. Walk 4. Take the Ammerse Heights Way along the hills to the west of the lake, then drop down to the shore near Schondorf. Return by lake steamer or train. |
